The 27 year old global citizen has been stamping out social media Timelines with his digital footprint, while imparting knowledge through workshops and events offline. With such levels of work, it wouldn’t be shocking that his portfolio grows with each passing sunset. The latest addition to his impressive portfolio is the partnership between him and MTV Shuga. It was a good morning on social media when we woke up to an announcement by the TV Show reading:
MTV Shuga is a television drama series that was first aired in November 2009 on MTV Base as part of an initiative dubbed MTV Staying Alive Ignite. Its first two seasons were commissioned by MTV Networks Africa in association with The MTV Staying Alive Foundation, PEPFAR (The US President’s Emergency Fund for AIDS Relief), the partnership for an HIV Free generation (HFG) and the Government of Kenya, as part of a multimedia campaign to spread the message about responsible sexual behaviour and tolerance.
The latest season MTV Shuga: Down South was aired in 48 different African countries as well as a host of international platforms. MTV Shuga has aired on over 180 broadcast platforms to date. The show has accumulated a number of awards over the years for the cutting-edge show, including; Edutainment Africa Award (2012), ICRW Award for Innovation, World Media Festival Gold & Grand Awards for Education(2014 & 2016), Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Award for Best TV Series (2015), Third Sector Awards: Big Impact Award (2016) & ISNTD Award for Mass Media & Impact (2017). MTV Shuga is currently in production of its sixth season which is being produced in Lagos, Nigeria. The show will be aired from March 2018. African celebrities such as Tiwa Savage, Lupita Nyong’o, Thuso Mbedu and Macmillan Mabaleka are some individuals who have featured on the show.
This partnership , which is an initiative by the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, will go a long way in educating (especially the youth) about HIV and Aids, not only in Zimbabwe but beyond borders. The partnership also means he is the official licensee for the TV and Radio Drama Series which will see him partnering with local outlets and networks in getting the HIV/AIDS awareness series showcased across the country and continent. Having successfully curated his podcast dubbed – The Gilmore Tee Vibe – the new season is said to include extracts and conversations from the MTV Shuga drama series. Gilmore who is already active in the creative industries across Zimbabwe and Africa gets to partner with MTV Shuga through his Podcast and other televised platforms.
I am extremely excited to be working with MTV Shuga in spreading awareness on HIV/AIDS across the globe. Above all, I am grateful to God for granting these opportunities to me.
