Valentine’s Day may have come way too early for Bulawayo screen writers and directors but hey, who can ever say no to dates. The love affair has been lingering in the air and draft proposals in some computers and iPhone notes for quite some time and it’s only ‘write’ that the two meet. This is definitely a first date of many to come, marriage is in the pipeline too but let’s focus on the date for now.
After successfully hosting their first ever micro budget film making workshop covering the aspect of acting, Ya-sibo? Media is forging ahead with a new developmental initiative. i263 Screenwriters Coffee Morning is a free event to be hosted on the first Friday of each month at Alliance Francaise de Bulawayo. Screenwriters and Film Directors will meet up to discuss screenplays, plan for short film shoots and of course drink lots of coffee.
The first ever #indie263 coffee morning will see award winning artiste Philani Amadeus Nyoni (along with a surprise film director guest) hosting the meet up with selected screenwriters and doing script development on their concepts. The Ya-sibo? Media team will create shooting schedules for the screenplays, all this done with the aim of getting screen credits and as proof of concept to the screenwriters.
The organiser, award winning film director Lenni Mdawini Sibanda said
We know it is a lonely world for screenwriters out there and we hope this coffee meet up will help writers find a community that appreciates and loves the work they do. This community also acts as a bridge between scriptwriters and directors, so filmmakers are encouraged to check out the city’s writing talent during these meetings.
To participate, screenwriters can visit the Ya-sibo? Media social media pages and see submission details.
