This year’s Zimbabwe Models Awards were held in Harare at Pabloz on Friday the 16th of December. The annual awards which celebrate Zimbabwean Models across the globe and fashion platform promoting models also commemorated the late fashion icon Kiki Divaris in this year’s edition. The night which was filled with nominations that saw some of Zimbabwe’s top models walk away with awards, had fashion photographers, agencies and productions walking away with acknowledgements too for their contribution to bringing up models.

Undoubtedly, the Intwasa Fashion Show which is one of Zimbabwe’s highly acknowledged fashion platforms walked away with the Best Produced Fashion Show in Zimbabwe at the 2016 Zimbabwe Models Awards. In its inception edition, 64 models turned up for auditions, with most of them being from Bulawayo and surrounding areas. Later during the years, models as far as from Botswana, South Africa and other cities in Zimbabwe, have come through to Bulawayo to audition for the annual event. Besides giving an opportunity to new models and outside individuals, the fashion platform has also linked a lot of designers to being interned at Edgars Stores and also showcasing at other bigger regional platforms such as Ekurhuleni Fashion Festival, Durban Fashion Fair and SA Menswear Week, amongst many.

In the past years, the Intwasa Fashion Show has also groomed young designers who have gone out to launch their independent brands with the guidance of Hunnar Management Agency, the producers of the event.

Winning this award means so much to our team who work tirelessly in making sure that the Intwasa Fashion Show is well produced and also brings out adequate and tangible platforms for those involved each year. Our support from the British Council, Edgars Stores, Bulawayo Polytechnic and other stakeholders has been outstanding and resulted to our work reaching greater heights. We have had designers whom we have groomed get attached to Edgars Stores, showcasing at other regional platforms such as Durban Fashion Fair, South African Menswear Week and Mozambique Fashion Week, just to name a few. So, this acknowledgement from home brings huge smiles on us – said Gilmore Tee the Producer of Intwasa Fashion Show

Each year, models from across Zimbabwe travel to the city of Bulawayo to try their luck in being part of this premium event. The highest number of models who would have cast, the 2 hour fashion production has received in the past years is 164. Each year the team takes out one Saturday, 3 months before the show, to hold castings and takes a week to screen the models up to a certain desired number, depending on the amount of designer collections to be showcased. Hunnar Agency promises even more fireworks this coming year and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
