Applications are now open for one of Zimbabwe’s biggest annual arts event. The festival’s 12th edition themed EXPRESSIONS that will run from the 26th of September to the 1st of October 2016 in Bulawayo  gives a lifetime opportunity to established and budding artists at a much bigger stage. The festival is looking for fresh, vibrant, engaging, and thought provoking works in the fields of music, spoken word, comedy, theatre, dance, literary arts, visual arts, fashion, and film.

Instead of complaining of the lack of support and platforms to express their artistry, this is the opportunity to give people reason to follow your craft. The previous year has seen some upcoming artists complaining that the festival doesn’t give them opportunity, yet if you trace the application process you find out that they wouldn’t have applied for any slot. Participation will also see you gaining more exposure and rubbing shoulders with other artists from different fields, possibly setting you up for collaborations. We know a lot of artists that love talking against progress in whatsapp groups, this time we inboxed them the application form (thanks to whatsapp document support function) so we cannot wait to hear their excuses.

Applications can be downloaded from their website or collected at their offices, Suite 22, Treger House, Jason Moyo & 11th Avenue. The deadline for submission is 30 April. Let’s EXPRESS ourselves through art! And oh, as pre highlights of what to expect at the festival as far as poetry is concerned, there is the Shakespeare koBulawayo Poetry Slam on the 16th of April at the National Art Gallery in Bulawayo from 1400hrs. It features poets such as the threesum Lady Tshawe, Black Lily, and Tinashe Tafirenyika, Itonga, Keithswic, Just Benjamin, Ty’ra Vanadis  and last year’s crowd favourite Farirai. A dollar gets you in for some massive word play.
