Good times in the literary sphere thanks to the Curate Bulawayo Book Club which is ever coming up with initiatives to propel African literature to greater heights. In their recent project, they have come up with an online bookshop aimed at making literary projects available to everyone under one roof. The store will act as a literary hub housing hundreds of African writers, poets, critical thinkers, critics, and those with an appreciation of literature coming together with an aim of pushing the literature agenda forward. For starters, the book store will have in stock anthologies from across the motherland. These will take you through diverse African experiences by authors both local and in the diaspora. It is very important that we write our own stories and take charge of our heritage, the Book club understands this and will make efforts to facilitate dialogues on African Literature focusing on past, present and future literary scholars and their works, working with other initiatives with similar agendas.
In a bid to promote and applaud the grind of African authors, the bookshop will sell anthologies from all over Africa at $2 each on behalf of the authors. Its high time Africans come together and appreciate literature with way more than facebook likes and twitter retweets, income is part of everyone’s end game. Compiling a whole anthology takes time and money, hence the book store aims to curb some of the expenses and encourage authors and contributors to produce quality work worth paying for. Authors who are willing to work with the book club pay an administration fee of $5 and get 80% of all proceeds.
This is just one of many announcements from Curate Bulawayo this month as far as literature is concerned but we can safely say 2017 will be on fire. For more information on the Book Store email email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. and follow @umthombo_icon for updates.
