After weeks of counting down and planning what to do at the Art Fest, It finally came to pass on the 11th of June and I’m glad to say it lived to all my expectations plus a cherry on top (if not cherries). I have never seen so much amazing Zimbabwean art in one venue and different variety. Art ranged from Fine Art to Abstract through sculpture of all shapes, sizes and materials. Art lovers who were in attendance surely went home with a lot of motivation, ideas, and contacts.

Venue was beautiful and well decorated, service was great, Band Evicted was popping although it would have been great to have more than one band playing for variety but hey, we attended for art and art we got! Attendance was super this year from both exhibitors (over 120 Zimbabwean artists) and the general public probably because the festival came a month after HIFA rather than the usual week, giving people more time to save up and the festival team more time to advertise the initiative. Another thing I applaud the festival for is how they create a platform for emerging and established artists and at the same time give back to the community, those charity donations will go a long way thanks to you guys. The only concern I had with the festival is the location, if only it would be more central so that transport isn’t that much of an issue then probably even more people would be in attendance.

The Art festival really revived my hope in the execution of festivals in Zimbabwe and showed how a seemingly small platform can go a long way in promoting the arts fraternity in the country. Interaction at such events often lead to collaborations that break boundaries. They create much needed conversations and dialogue between all art stakeholders. My other wish would be that more schools attend such events since talent is usually identified and nurtured from such grassroots, it is only right to feed that artistic desire in children. Next year I am definitely attending and hope there will be bigger numbers of everything we enjoyed this year.
